What D3E Does

• Full D³E: enrich a document with links into a discussion space (you own the document)
• Ubiquitous D³E: generate a discussion space for any URL (it may not be your website)

Full D³E

Full D³E uses the Publisher's Toolkit to process HTML files. The toolkit generates a frames-based environment with automatic hyperlinking for navigating around sections, checking citations and footnotes, and tight integration with a discussion space for critiquing documents (see some screenshots and example applications).

Discussion Systems

The toolkit currently interfaces to two web discussion systems:

• D³E-HyperNews is our customisation of the open source HyperNews system, written in Perl, and which requires a Unix/Linux operating system, on an Apache web server.
• D³E-Phorum is our customisation of the open source Phorum system, written in PHP, with a MySQL database, running on both Unix/Linux or Windows operating systems, on an Apache or Microsoft IIS server.

Ubiquitous D³E

Ubiquitous D³E is ideal for quickly setting up a discussion on an interesting URL. It generates a discussion space next to the website, with threads focusing on topics that you specify.
